Super Sport
Super Sport
Meet the Super Sport, a delightful radio control sport model with a wingspan of 45 inches and a wing area of 290 square inches. This model is designed to be easy to build and perfect for those leisurely flights on a Sunday afternoon. While it's not intended to serve as a trainer, it offers stable and gentle flight characteristics, making it accessible for relatively inexperienced pilots with a few hours of RC flying under their belts.
For optimal performance, engines ranging from .09 to .15 cubic inches are ideal for the Super Sport.
To get the best flying experience, it’s recommended to equip your model with 3-channel radio equipment. This setup allows you to operate the rudder, elevator, and engine throttle, giving you excellent control. If you prefer, you can also use 4-channel equipment and only utilize 3 of the channels. You’ll find the fuselage spacious enough to easily accommodate a standard-sized battery pack and servos.
While 1 or 2-channel radio equipment could theoretically work with the Super Sport, we advise against it unless you’re well-versed in the limitations of such setups. With 2 channels, you’ll have rudder and elevator control, and with just 1 channel, only rudder control is possible, definitely limiting your flying experience!
Foam Wing Instructions
Important Note: To enhance the strength of the wing, it’s crucial to apply two strips of 3/4 inch wide Filament Tape spanwise across the bottom of the wing as shown in the instructions. If you plan to paint your wing (which is highly recommended), wait until after the paint has dried to apply the tape. For additional reinforcement, consider using patches of filament tape around the trailing edge where the wing hold-down rubber bands will attach. Other properly non-stretchable and tear-resistant tapes, like 3M Scotch Filament Tape, can also work well.
Be mindful to avoid letting solvent-based model cement, dope, or fiberglass resin come in contact with the foam wing, as these will melt the foam on touch. For repairs, epoxy glues are a safe choice.
