Classy Gassy II
Classy Gassy II
A free-flight gas model boasting a unique twin-tailed design.
The Classy Gassy II is a proud descendant of the award-winning Classy Gassie model crafted by the author a few years back. This earlier creation stemmed from extensive experimentation and learning. The current model, presented at half the original size, showcases a much simpler structure compared to its predecessor. With 165 square inches of wing area, it’s designed for smaller scale performance. Frankly, the flight experience is remarkable—its climb feels like a rocket, while the glide mimics that of a soaring buzzard.
Fuselage Design
For the fuselage, we again utilize the side-frame construction method. You’ll notice the sheet balsa nose side, which is built as part of the side frame itself. An important design feature is the leading edge of the wing platform, which is 1/4 inch higher than the trailing edge. The primary distinction between a towline glider or rubber model and an engine-powered or gas model lies in the engine mounts. In this instance, they take the form of a durable plywood bulkhead.
