Cessna C-425 Corsair

Cessna C-425 Corsair
A free flight scale model twin designed for rubber power, with a wingspan of 36 inches.

Overview
While reviewing some of the latest models built for the FAC Nats, I noticed a beautifully crafted Beech King Air and wondered if Cessna had a similar model that would translate nicely into a scale replica. Sure enough, I found the C-425 Corsair, and with a name like that, I just had to take on the challenge!

Construction Details
Wing
For the wing, we’ll employ Dave Rees’ style of sliced rib construction, which provides both strength and accuracy.

Fuselage
The fuselage should be constructed using a ladder jig. You can make the formers from 1/16” sheet balsa, or, for added strength, laminate them from three layers of 1/32” x 1/16” strips of balsa around the provided templates.

Empennage
The horizontal stabilizer is built from 3/32” square and sheet balsa. Include two ribs at the center so one can be sanded down to create the necessary dihedral. This can be achieved using a sand-and-try method to ensure a good joint for cementing. The vertical fin and rudder are constructed in place after the outline is built flat on the board.

I look forward to building one soon and can’t wait to see how it performs in the air!
