Candy 30 DLG

Candy 30 DLG Overview
The Candy 30 DLG is a hand-launched glider model featuring a wingspan of 30 inches and a wing area of 120 square inches, incorporating some foam construction elements.

The Candy 30 design is an abbreviation for Cheap And Nasty DLG. The objective was to create a simple and affordable model for enjoyable flying, with an estimated total cost of around £23.

Construction Details
This model is constructed using 6mm depron, which is covered in colorful parcel tape. The boom is made from a fiberglass fishing pole section purchased from a budget store. The wing is a flat depron sheet reinforced with a vertical carbon strip spar measuring 0.5x5mm. The trailing edge is lightly sanded to reduce thickness, while the leading edge features a rounded finish. The tail surfaces are crafted from balsa wood.

The overall wingspan is 30 inches, and the model's all-up weight is 78 grams, which includes 10 grams of nose weight. It utilizes 2.5g Emax ES9051 digital servos, which operate effectively with Kevlar thread and pull-spring control surfaces.

The power source consists of an 8-gram Turnigy Nanotech 1S 300mAh battery, complemented by a 3g Orange R410X receiver.

Performance and Build Time
The model was designed in one afternoon and built over the course of about two days. While it may not compete with higher-end models like the Elf, it offers significant enjoyment for the minimal investment. You can expect performance around half that of more expensive models, yet at merely one-sixth of the cost!

The thin, flat wing design ensures excellent penetration, allowing the glider to cover a surprisingly large area of sky. However, the glide slope can be less effective in "thermal mode." Its lightweight construction enables it to handle decent lift well, and its speed makes it quite enjoyable for slope flying in light winds.
