Review #125: Aug. 20, 2025 | 3D RC Hobby's 32" Das Not Ugly Stick RTF Airplane Kit: Precision-Built, Smooth Flyer
The 3D RC Hobby 32" Ready-to-Fly (RTF) Das Not Ugly Stick airplane kit is an impressive blend of expert engineering, quality materials, and fun-in-the-air performance. I recently built and flew this model, starting from a pile of precision laser-cut wood to a fully operational aircraft. In this review, I’ll walk you through the build process, design quality, flight characteristics, and my overall experience. If you're looking for a high-performance RC plane that’s as rewarding to build as it is to fly, read on.

Build Experience
This was one of the most satisfying RC builds I’ve done in a while. The laser-cut parts were extremely precise, fitting together with minimal sanding or tweaking. The included plans were clear and easy to follow, even for less experienced builders. Assembly took me about 8 hours total, and I appreciated that the electronics were pre-matched for a true RTF experience.
The only tools I needed were a hobby knife and a screwdriver, and I used CA glue, epoxy, and Monokote covering for final assembly.
Design & Quality
The design is exceptional. From the lightweight frame to the efficient airflow around the motor, everything about this airplane felt purpose-built for both fun and precision. I was impressed with the strength-to-weight ratio and the thoughtfulness in the control surface placement. A standout feature is the motor mounting - it’s rugged and well-aligned out of the box.
Flight Performance
Flying this model was a thrill. Takeoff was quick and straight, and it handled beautifully in the air. It's capable of tight turns, loops, and basic 3D maneuvers, but it's also forgiving enough for smooth, relaxing cruising. Wind resistance was decent for a model this size, and battery life gave me about 12 minutes per flight.
I flew with a 3S 1800mAh LiPo and my trusty old boy Spektrum radio.
Final Verdict
I highly recommend the 3D RC Hobby 32" RTF kit for any intermediate RC builder who enjoys a hands-on experience followed by smooth, precise flying. The combination of quality materials, thoughtful design, and rewarding performance makes this kit a great value. Whether you’re looking to expand your hangar or take your builds to the next level, this kit delivers.
